Cut Scenes from "Runt of the Litter"
Cut scene 1
It was difficult to care about anything when Tristan was holding onto him and talking about keeping him. Maybe for Tristan possession was a put-off, but Lyall found the idea of giving himself to someone to be taken care of… reassuring. Safe. And that’s how Tristan always made him feel, anyway. If Tristan said he had his back, there wasn’t anything much for Lyall to worry about. He gave Tristan a loopy smile.
“We could try it…” he suggested, his face hurt a little and he must have looked stupid.
Tristan laughed, joyful and careless, then looked away like he was embarrassed.
Lyall moaned into the kiss, hands on Tristan’s shirt, his back pressed uncomfortably against the windows pane. Tristan tugged him forward into his body, hips seeking his own, and then his hands went lower, past Lyall’s hips and onto his arse and then he was on the air with Tristan shoved right between the v of his legs and it was the most natural thing in the world to wrap his legs around the omega’s hips. It pressed his cock and sack right against the firm muscle of Tristan’s stomach.
Tristan compounded his complete disregard for expectations by nuzzling the side of his neck. “I couldn’t believe it was really you, I thought I must have stolen one of your shirts or something…” He inhaled, hips circling, more tease than intent and Lyall shuddered, nails elongating into sharp points without his permission.
Tristan gasped but didn’t pull away from him when they cut into his skin, nothing serious but surely not pleasant and… and Lyall couldn’t fucking let go. It was all backwards, but… but he couldn’t let go. And Tristan wasn’t letting him go either, and then the words being half licked and half fed to him made their way to his brain, “I shouldn’t get to have this, you’re so— I shouldn’t, but if you let me, I’ll be so good. I want to taste you everywhere, I want to sleep with you, just sleep, and wake up with you, and make you come so hard you can’t… you can’t stop thinking about it all day. I can’t stop thinking about your cock in me, and you said I could—” He stopped, pressing a wet, long kiss Lyall’s mouth.
It was probably meant as a distraction, but sucking on his tongue gave Lyall time to process. “Wait, what? Could what?”
Tristan shook his head, mostly rubbing his nose against Lyall’s cheek.
Cut scene 2
Lyall hadn’t the foggiest idea what Valium could do to a werewolf, but when the kindly old lady sitting next to him on the place offered him a little light blue pill, he was desperate enough to reach for it anyway. In his case, it turned out to be a good way to get knocked out and wake up groggy and disoriented in the middle of a 20+ hour flight. He was contemplating if he wanted to go back to sleep when food arrived—it proved as poor as fiction had foretold but either the pill or the long-sleep made him hungry enough to devour his own and accept an extra tray from one of his better prepared seat mates when they opted for another sandwich instead of the suspicious thing that was meant to be beef lasagne.
He ate fast and steady, demolishing the whole thing in less than five minutes and afterwards at least his stomach was full. He ended up drinking enough water to clear the taste off his mouth that he had to ask to be allowed to get up to visit the tiny toilet. He couldn’t imagine how Tristan dealt with facilities this size, or why plane designers didn’t think they could afford ten centimetres to each side of the cubicle to allow for the actual length of adult human torsos and limbs.

Are you serious about this?
I don’t think I’m ready to speak like that, wouldn’t it be better for you to give the lecture via skype or something?
Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot to me. I’m grateful you offered me this chance to help and I can’t explain how much better this work has made my life, but I’m sure there’s better options.
Lyall.

Lyall,
I don’t know how to convince you of this because I have never seen you speak in public, but I've HEARD you speak to me and I know you know everything we know about this. You may still not want to do it, and I am prepared to accept that, but you should know you can and with the funding we secured from the Dutch pack, we can definitely afford your tickets to New Zealand and then to Europe so you can take over some of the lectures for me.
I have tried to convince Doctor Aiken to speak as well but even having met him only once, I can tell he would not do well like that and he knows it too.
Tristan
Cut scene 4
Tristan froze for a moment. “It’s a whole week till the full moon,” he said precisely. “And I’m... I’m fine, anyway.”
Lyall might have had a moment of doubt there, but the way Tristan had looked at him, the way he smelled, only for a moment but long enough for Lyall’s eager nose to pick up... He grinned up at him. “I’m at your service, milord.”
Tristan’s face froze, but then he burst out laughing, perhaps he found it too absurd to be offended. “Don’t tempt me,” he told Lyall severely, eyes falling to his mouth, and it was actually up to Lyall to turn away.
Cut scene 5
“Why did you leave?”
“I’m obviously not good enough, okay?” “I have been... I don’t know, pretending or hoping or something, but I’m not. You’re a doctor and smart and gorgeous, and I’m...” He waved down at his body. “I don’t even know who, and even if I worked out for years, I still wouldn’t—”
“Shut up,” Tristan said, which shocked Lyall enough into doing just that. “I need you to be absolutely clear, you did not leave because of Eve?”
“What?” Lyall gapped at him. “No, she’s... she’s great, and she didn’t... I mean, obviously it didn’t even cross her mind that—”
Tristan stepped forward and took hold of his waving wrist, which shouldn’t have been enough to silence anyone except for how Lyall was at risk of swallowing his own tongue and his heart was pounding as he looked up at the omega wolf so casually grabbing him. Tristan’s eyes were narrowed and intensely focused on him. “It’s crossed my mind,” he said and Lyall could hardly hold his gaze but looking down meant finding his lips instead and that just made his heart beat faster. “I tried not to,” he added, like a confession. “Because you’re so young and I’m kind of your boss, but...”
Lyall glanced up at him, eyes wide and mind rushing with thoughts.
Cut scene 6
Some theorized a certain degree of genetic compatibility influenced attraction, but how would that explain homosexuality in species without omegas and alphas? Never mind the attraction felt by people well past their fertile years. And yet... It was something he’d been aware of since the moment Lyall had first looked his way.
It wasn’t separate from his sincere admiration for the alpha’s intelligence but it hadn’t come from that alone.
This was different, he knew why Lyall wanted him. Not the physical attraction, which for him had often been a problem and rarely an asset, but the rest. Lyall wanted to help other people and Tristan had given him a way to do that, it was easy to see how that would develop into warm feelings, at least, and with the pre-existing attraction…
Cut scene 7
“You're younger, sure, but I've no idea what I'm doing. At first, I thought it should bother me, but it doesn’t, because I know you.”
“Oh.” Tristan heard him sip at his tea and thought, Brave.
Lyall had called him brave, but he probably meant the way he’d defied the rules when it came to his project; he most certainly had not behaved bravely here. But he could. Lyall deserved him to. “I do want you... and I want to do this.”
Cut scene 8
Lyall actually stopped him there, feeling like his hand Tristan’s chest was the deepest of betrayals. His wolf certainly agreed, but if he got a taste of Tristan’s mouth now... There was no way he would be able to stop at just that. And there was a child in the house. Said child might have implied she approved of them being together but she didn’t deserve to get traumatized by seeing her dad in the middle of anything and Lyall was determined to get on her good side.
He probably wouldn’t have managed on his own but Tristan groaned and stepped away. “You’re right. I’m... I’m behaving like a teenager,” he commented, sweet amusement in his voice.
Lyall tsked his tongue at him, giving him a severe look not even a young child would have bought. “I cannot believe you’re stereotyping like that.”
“I know,” Tristan said, watching him closely and then forgot to finish the sentence in a way that made Lyall swallow hard and look away.
